2012 – A Year of Shoots, Changes, Travels, Plans and So Much More…

December 31, 2012

2012 was my first year out of school and it is scary to know that this is it! There is nothing to fall back on. That everyone is looking at you and asking what is going on. While the year was not as successful when it came to stable jobs, I did work with fantastic new and old friends on shoots and freelance jobs. I was also lucky to have traveled everywhere from Boston to Washington to Wisconsin, Austria and Saudi Arabia. This has been a truly amazing year and I hope to make 2013 10 times better. I have exciting new personal projects and hopefully great job opportunities. I was to thank everyone I worked with this past year for making it happen. Here is a quick review of my work and collaborations from 2012.

The year began with an unexpected collaboration with designer Kyle Brincefield, creator of StudMuffin. We shot the pieces for his first line in the freezing cold with models Matt Altieri and Jay Roth. While it was outside the box for me, it came out fantastic!

Following that shoot, I collaborated with fellow photographer and friend Alexandra Frumberg on a shoot for Factice Magazine. It was my first time working with the amazing Isaac Davidson of Wigbar and the beautiful make up artist Alyne Halvajian.

In March I did a shoot with a beautiful fresh face with Alisse Crucen from Fusion Model Management. We shot on a gorgeous day in Brooklyn and had a great time. Alisse later made it on to the show Fashion Star.

Also in March I shot the very funny and handsome Sasha Reheylo from Major Models. Before he changed into his outfit I asked him if he had a six pack and he said “No, but I do have an 8 pack.” Judge for yourself! Styling by Ross Laurence.

Some time later I shot with Fusion model Beau Jensen. This is a shot that is part of a long term series.

Next came a summertime shoot with a fantastic all Italian model, Cristiano Basso. Styling done by my friend and stylist Michael Psomas.

In June my travels took me to visit a close friend in Vienna, Austria. I had casted for models with local agencies and while there, I was so inspired by the beautiful architecture that I decided it must be an outdoor shoot. But because of bad weather the shoot was cancelled. But we eventually shot before I left and the images came out great. Hair and make up by Britta Tess.

In late summer, I collaborated again with the fantastic Alexandra Frumberg, this time for a shoot for Intima Magazine. This time I did the creative direction for the shoot. We were all very happy with the shots. Hair by Sasha Bay and Make Up by Danielle Vincent.

In late August I had the pleasure of working with singer Dave Melillo for Glamoholic Magazine. We had a fantastic time and the story came out great. Styling by Kat Banas.

My last few shoots were a few back to basic shoots done in studio. With a majority of my work shot on location, I wanted to do something cleaner, simpler. I had a fantastic time working with everyone on these shoots.

The first shoot was with my good friend Anthony Greenfield from Major Models. Anthony is always a great guy to work with and always a pleasure to have on set. Hair by Matthew Newman, Make Up by Jonny Polizzi, and Styling by Denny Balmaceda

Around that time I also shot with Ryan Medel of Major Models as well. While his whole shoot came out fantastic, I truly was extremely happy with this shot of his. Hair and Make Up by Jonny Polizzi and Styling by Denny Balmaceda

And then after Ryan I shot the absolutely gorgeous Zaga Skerletovic of Ford Models. Zaga was a pro and I had so many great shots that it was difficult to edit them down! Hair by Matthew Newman, Make Up by Jonny Polizzi, and Styling by Denny Balmaceda

And finally I shot a striking new face from Red Citizen Models: Mas. Absolutely amazing.

I shot Ryan for a magazine story earlier this year but I have been itching to work with him again and shoot him the way I had envisioned! Ryan was fantastic at the shoot and his shots are just as great. Here is one of them.

April 25, 2011

A couple of months ago I decided to start working on the final projects for my thesis. Many ideas came to me, some of which I could do and others I had to sacrifice due to problems such as weather, etc. I did the first two shoots and they came out amazing but some time right after my second shoot, I remembered a shoot idea that I had been thinking about for well over a year and never had the chance to do. Those are the images in my previous post.

Around the same time I had seen a dress that had left me speechless. It was designed by a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology and it was absolutely mesmerizing. I knew I had to shoot it somehow. I had no way of reaching her so I got her name and took a shot of the dress to remember it. I managed to track her down online (creepy huh!) and got in touch with her. She happily agreed to do the shoot and I was absolutely ecstatic. Her name is Sunghee Kim.

However, in order to shoot this dress, I needed an amazing model who could capture the essence of the dress and play a part in it. After a  grueling and headache inducing search for a girl, I finally found a model. The model ended up booking a job to my dismay but with it came a blessing in disguise: Aleksandra Semechkina. I have worked with dozens of models, but she has been one of the best. She blew me away with her movement and character.

I am so happy and lucky to have worked with these two ladies. I am so proud of this shoot. Here are some more shots I took of Aleksandra wearing a Sunghee Kim original!

Also, many thanks to Danielle Klatsky and Maggie Joseph for make up and hair (respectively) and Eric at Major!

The Beginning of the End

April 20, 2011

While I have been nothing but impatient about leaving FIT, I still am sad that it truly is the end of a crazy time. No more winter breaks, no more summer vacations! Here is the shoot I did for my final senior project. I decided it was time to really push myself creatively and build on my usual style. It took a lot of planning, panic and work, but it really truly paid off. I worked with an amazing team and an amazing agency.

These images will be displayed at the Salt Space Gallery on 25th/5th ave in New York City on May 12th, 6-9pm. Please come and support me and the Senior Photo class of 2011!
